One of our residents, Lady Doris Bateman, recently celebrated her 100th birthday in July. Her grand-daughter Kerry had organised a surprise family celebration - Lady Bateman was picked up from Kirk House in a vintage car and driven in style to the Portaferry Hotel to have afternoon tea with her family, many of whom had flown home sepcially.
The celebrations continued at Kirk House a few days later - staff organised a party with all Lady Bateman's neighbours on her corridor and had tastefully decorated the Yellow Room with banners and balloons, to reflect her sense of style. Assistant Cook Maria spent weeks creating a special birthday cake, decorated with roses. Kirk House Manager Sarah and Deputy Manager Sharon had the very difficult task of tasting the cake fillings in advance to check everything was perfect!
